Reserve managed by Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ)

The Friends of Kloofendal (FroK) , founded in  August 2002 by WESSA members, are volunteers with a wide range of ecological knowledge and interest, who promote conservation through guided nature walks, courses and lectures, and various projects, in the reserve.

What’s on offer

Kloofendal Nature Reserve offers:

  • Hiking
  • Bird watching
  • Guided nature walks of many nature topics for people of all ages
  • Picnicking
  • Braai facilities are available (No portable braai stands are permitted)
  • Executive lapa and braai lapa (These must be booked with JCPZ)

Rules and Regulations

No alcohol, electronic music, littering, ball games are permitted in the reserve.

The Johannesburg Public Open Spaces Bylaws apply to the Kloofendal Nature Reserve, and are being enforced, both the summary and the full version

Kloofendal Ecological Centre

Kloofendal Ecological Centre in the amphitheatre area, is managed by JCPZ Environmental Education, and houses many ecological displays managed by FroK.

The Ecological Centre is open during the guided walks, both over weekends and for school groups during the week, offered by FroK and during the FroK Open days. The FroK guided walks start and end at the Ecological Centre.

The Ecological Centre is available for other Environmental Educational events, which need to be booked through JCPZ Environmental Education department manager, Sinah Magolo.

Free for groups up to 20 people

More than 20 people are required to book with JCPZ
